With a new month upon us and the year 2025 flying by, it felt like great time to take stock of some new new slot games available at BetMGM Online Casino in March. One theme I noticed to the new additions: many of these new releases are based on hit movies and popular TV series.

While there are many great additions both across the country and state exclusives, today we are going to look at four slot machines that have proven to be popular options at BetMGM.

Movie or TV-based slots are a trend at BetMGM this month

There is no denying movies and TV dominate in of grabbing the attention of millions of Americans. One recent studio, White Hat Gaming, has built its business on these kinds of branded slots, which enjoy instant recognition and appeal with fans of the shows and movies they’re based on.

Squid Game Gganbu by Light and Wonder, available at BetMGM

White Hat also serves as the US distributor for Blueprint Gaming, which is responsible for two of our featured slots this month. First, there’s The Goonies Megaways, which takes The Goonies—one of Blueprint’s first hits in the US—and adds the ever-popular Megaways mechanic, under license from Big Time Gaming. Then we’ve got Rick and Morty Strike Back, a less nostalgic, more contemporary bit of content.

White Hat’s success has lit a fire under other, more established studios to fight back with movie and TV content of their own. Rounding out our lineup for the month we’ve got Wizard of Oz Over the Rainbow, and Squid Game Gganbu, both by Light & Wonder, one of the biggest names in casino content.

Wizard of Oz Over the Rainbow

Wizard of Oz – Over the Rainbow is a new exclusive game PlayUSA announced earlier this month for BetMGM Online Casino and Borgata.

The Broadway musical Wicked rekindled Americans’ longstanding infatuation with the Land of Oz. BetMGM and Light & Wonder wasted no time capitalizating on that moment with a retail slot machine based on the original movie. Now, the digital adaptation of Wizard of Oz – Over the Rainbow is a trending new release in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan, perfectly timed to follow up on the theatrical release of the silver screen version of Wicked.

The slot machine title has a standard setup for the base game. It has five reels and up to 45 different paylines with a maximum win of 3,692x. It has a Return To Player percentage of 96.2%, but those numbers aren’t the selling point.

Where Wizard of Oz – Over the Rainbow shines is in its bonuses. Every few spins, Glinda the Good Witch will visit the player and bring a few bonuses with her. Her bonus turns between 2-5 reels into Glinda Wild symbols. Additionally, she also could bring other characters from Wizard of Oz and Wicked could pop up and add their own bonuses. When these bonuses area combined is when players win big.

Rick and Morty Strike Back Jackpot Royale Express

If you want less of a dreamlike feel of Wizard of Oz Over the Rainbow and more chaos and insanity, Rick and Morty Strike Back Jackpot Royale Express is the new game on BetMGM for you.

Now, the spec sheet. Rick and Morty Strike Back Jackpot Royale Express, developed by Blueprint Gaming, is a six-reel game with four rows and up to 4,096 paylines. The RTP is 95% and the game is a medium-high volatility option.

The high-ish volatility means there are not as many small wins across the paylines, but when the player does hit, they hit big. This is true partly because of the Rick and Morty Strike Back Jackpot Royale Express Cash symbols, which pay out the player up to 2,500x the original wager. Additionally, there are another dozen or so bonuses that could appear including Cosmic Cash, Morty Moolah, Schwifty Add, Rick C-137 Spins and more.

Squid Game Gganbu

If high volatility slot machine games are not really your cup of tea, do not fear. There are new and fun slot machines available for you as well including Squid Game Gganbu which was developed by Light & Wonder, the same development company that created Wizard of Oz – Over the Rainbow.

There are five paylines and five reels available when playing with a maximum win of 2,500x the original bet. The RTP is 96% and there are four levels of jackpots that could be won. There is a mini jackpot that pays out 23.15x, a minor jackpot that pays out 57.87x, a major jackpot that pays out 231.458x and a final grand jackpot that pays out 1,157.41x. On top of that, there is also a Ddakji Bonus inspired by the tile-flipping game from the Squid Game show which could lead to winnings up to 36x the original bet.

The Squid Game Gganbu slot is a low volatility option which means players will likely see lots of small wins as opposed to a couple big wins. This is great for people who want to simply play a slot machine without the stress of big losses and big wins.

The Goonies Megaways

Last, but not least, is The Goonies Megaways slot machine developed by Blueprint Gaming.

This new slot machine game is distributed by White Hat Gaming, which as we mentioned, loves making casino games built around movies and TV shows. Recently, the same company released other casino games such as ‘Deal or No Deal: What’s in the Case?’ as well as ‘Ted Jackpot Royale’ which is based on the Mark Wahlburg movies.

The Goonies Megaways is a six-reel game and a variable number of paylines, up to 15,625. Depending on the circumstance, the slot machine will have anywhere from 92% to 95% RTP and a maximum win of 10,000x the original bet. As expected, the game is between a medium and high volatility.

Like all Megaways games, this is an adaptation of an earlier hit—Megaways games feature variably-sized icons on the reels, with smaller symbols allowing more to fit on the screen and therefore increasing the number of paylines.

Most of the bonuses are similar to that earlier slot. While there are appearances from Data, Mikey, Mouth and Sloth, there is no inclusion of Chunk unfortunately. That is probably because Blueprint Gaming had to remove the Chunk’s Truffle Shuffle from the list of possible bonuses, as it wouldn’t fit with the Megways mechanic. This style of slot machine can create more chances to win so it is likely the developer removed an additional bonus to balance the odds.
