Online Casino Banking & Payment Methods

|

Real-money online casinos are now available in several US states, including New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

But of course, before you can play online, you need to make a deposit. And if you win big, you want to be able to withdraw those winnings.

That reality raises some questions: What payment/withdrawal methods are available at online casinos? What are the pros and cons of the different methods? And which casinos have the most hassle-free banking?

We will cover the answers to all of these questions in our comprehensive guide to online casino banking and payment methods.

Most popular banking options for online casinos

Every online casino is a little different in of how players can make deposits and withdrawals. There may also be slight differences in the minimum and maximum amounts allowed.

That said, the best online casinos in the US offer a wide variety of banking options so that players can choose the one that’s best for them. Below, I have identified the most common methods available. These also are the methods that most online casino players prefer, due to their ease of use.

If you click the button below the box, you will be taken to our comprehensive guide to that online casino payment method.

Apple Pay

Apple designed this digital wallet to be safer, simpler, and more private than alternative payment methods. Apple Pay offers Face ID for secure authentication, as well as keeping your data private.

Cash at the cage

Most online casinos welcome cash payments at the casino cage. In states such as New Jersey and Michigan, an online casino needs a deal with a retail casino to operate legally, allowing cash deposits in person.

Credit cards

You can use Visa and MasterCard at every licensed online casino on the market. Most accept Discover, too. You may occasionally find that American Express is available, but that is rare.

Debit cards

Debit cards are linked to your bank , and you can use them to spend your money. That separates them from credit cards, which allow you to borrow money and repay it at a later date.

Debit card casinos

e-check

An e-check is simply a digital version of a paper check. It uses the Automated Clearing House (ACH) to transfer funds from your checking to an online casino’s bank .

Gift cards

Some online casinos will accept gift cards as payment. That can be a gift card backed by a card issuer—Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover—or it can be a branded gift card sold by the operator.

Wire transfer

A wire transfer is a useful deposit option for players who want to make large payments. It transfers funds electronically via a global network that is istered by banks and transfer service agencies.

Best casinos for payments

Again, most online casinos will have a variety of payment options. And of course, both the casinos and the payment methods work hard to make the experience -friendly.

However, I have played extensively on all of the online casinos available. And these are the ones that I have found have the widest variety of banking options and are the easiest to use:

Online Casino Number of Payment Options
Caesars 14
DraftKings 12
BetMGM 10

How to deposit to an online casino

It is easy to make a deposit at an online casino. Just follow these steps:

1. Find the deposit button. Usually this is easy to find. Most often, it’s in the upper right-hand corner. It’s also almost always next to your current balance. And usually it is labeled with something like “Add funds,” “Deposit,” a plus sign, or a money sign. However, at a few online casinos, the deposit button is hidden inside a hamburger menu.  Here is an example of what the deposit button looks like at FanDuel Casino. (Just please don’t judge me based on my balance! 🤣)

At most online casinos, you will need to your identity and prove you are the owner of the banking method before you can make a deposit (and you definitely need to before you make a withdrawal.)

2. Choose deposit method and amount. Enter the amount you would like to deposit and choose one of the methods provided.

3. Confirm deposit. Provide your payment details and then click or tap the screen to confirm the transaction.

4. Start playing. The funds will arrive instantly and be reflected in your balance.

Note that for a few online casino deposit methods, you will have the additional step of physically going to a location, such as the casino cage or a PayNearMe vendor.

Most online casinos have a minimum deposit of $10.

How to withdraw at an online casino

Withdrawing your funds at an online casino is similar to making a deposit and just as -friendly. Here are the steps:

1. Find the withdraw button. This is harder to find than the deposit button, unfortunately. Generally, if you find the button with your profile picture, it opens up a variety of settings and logistics. That is where you find the withdrawal button. Again, here is an example from FanDuel Casino:

2. Choose withdrawal method and amount. Enter the amount you would like to withdraw and choose one of the methods provided. (Note: some options grayed out in the screenshot below because of the pitiful balance I have. 🤣 Also, notice that there are fewer withdrawal methods than deposit methods. This is typical at online casinos.)

3. Confirm withdrawal. Provide your payment details and then click or tap the screen to confirm the transaction. At many online casinos, you will need to provide identity verification if this is your very first withdrawal.

4. Look for your withdrawal in your . Online casinos almost always need some time to the transaction before the withdrawal can be processed. Usually this process takes less than a day.

Again, for a few online casino withdrawal methods, you will have the additional step of physically going to a location, such as the casino cage.

Payment Fees & Time Limits

Most US online casinos do not charge fees for deposits or withdrawals. However, a fee may be charged on wire transfers. Some methods come with associated fees, too. For example, PayNearMe often charges fees for its service. The fee can range from $1.99 to $3.99 per transaction if you want to make a cash payment at a local store, such as CVS or 7-Eleven. Meanwhile, Play+ payments are free, but it charges a $2 fee for ATM withdrawals or e-check transfers to your bank .

You will need to be verified before you can make payments at an online casino. Some operators may be able to you automatically using the details you entered on the form. However, you may need to supply additional documents to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) checks. If so, a scan of your driver’s license and a recent household bill should suffice.

Any gambling profits are deemed to be taxable income. You will need to pay federal and state taxes on gambling winnings, but only if you end the year in profit from all gambling activities. Losses can be deducted from wins for tax purposes, so you will only face liabilities if you end the year in the black. If you win $1,200 or more from online slots, an online casino should send you a Form W-2G, and a corresponding copy is sent to the IRS, ensuring it has a record of your larger wins. It is helpful to maintain a record of wins and losses, as that will make it easier to compile your tax returns.

The table below breaks down the minimum deposits and the times associated with deposits and withdrawals at each of the main online casino banking options.  However, note that these are general guidelines. Individual online casinos may have slight differences (a different minimum deposit or a longer processing time, for example).

FAQ

Most online casinos in the US offer a variety of methods and are easy to navigate. So I can’t pick just one. However, to me, BetMGM, Caesars, and DraftKings stand above the competition. These three online casinos offer fast withdrawals and easy deposits using pretty much any method you could ask for.

Most online casino players find that PayPal is the easiest deposit method. It does not require you to enter any card details, making it a quick and convenient option. Venmo and Play+ are similarly easy for deposits.

PayPal and instant withdrawals are the easiest withdrawal methods at online casinos. Both options are quick and secure, which makes it popular among online casino players. These methods also don’t have any fees attached, which is another point in their favor.

You do not need a credit card to deposit at an online casino. There are lots of alternative methods, including online banking, PayPal, Venmo, Skrill, wire transfers, cash at the cage, or PayNearMe.

Your winnings will immediately be reflected in your balance when playing online casino games. You can then withdraw them via several methods, including Play+, PayPal, Venmo, a bank transfer, an e-check, a debit card payment, a bank wire, or cash at the cage. However, some methods will only be available if you have used them for a recent deposit.

Absolutely!  Well, I should say, absolutely as long as you are using a legal, regulated site. If you are playing at an online casino regulated in the state, they are required by law to pay winnings. If you ever have any problems with that, you can report the casino to the regulatory body in your state.

However, if you use an offshore casino, you don’t have any legal protection from getting ripped off. That’s why I never recommend those sites to anyone.
