Two heavyweight sports technology businesses will team up to provide sports betting services throughout the United States.

Sportech and Sportradar recently announced a partnership to combine their products for a more comprehensive service offering. This includes Sportech’s expertise in gaming technology around horse racing and Sportradar’s deep background in sports data and integrity protection. Sportradar already partners with:

  • NBA
  • NFL
  • NHL
  • NASCAR

In essence, Sportradar can provide the needed power behind Sportech’s technology. The companies said in a statement they plan to enter the Connecticut sports betting market at the first legal date. That could take a while, as Connecticut’s legislative session ended and friction remains between tribes and lawmakers.

What they’re saying about the deal

According to a statement from the companies, the partnership “will allow Sportech to offer Sportradar’s proven sports betting related product portfolio – including pre-match and in-play betting services, content, trading tools, and risk management services – to its network of 90 licensed operator business clients and other eligible operators in states where sports betting activity is declared legal.”

“We are thrilled to expand our product line to include Sportradar’s globally recognized sports betting capability, and we are poised to deliver a world-class sports betting experience to our business clients across the US and within our 16 Connecticut locations and through our online and mobile channels, when legislation permits,” said Andrew Gaughan, CEO of Sportech.

Sportradar planning for years

The release also says Sportradar “has been proactive in planning for a broader legalized sports betting landscape in the U.S. and this partnership underscores the great potential that exists within this developing market.”

“We’re excited to partner with Sportech, a company that shares our vision of how the US betting market will unfold and who are well positioned to capitalize on that market with existing gaming licenses and a strong customer base,” said Neale Deeley, vice president of gaming sales for Sportradar. “Our turnkey solutions and market leading bookmaker services will accelerate their sportsbook offering and provide them with a strong advantage as other states sports betting legislation.”

Both companies ready to move

The deal appears to place Sportech and Sportradar into the discussion as potential partners for operators jumping into sports betting across the country.

Delaware currently offer legal sports betting for single-game wagers. New Jersey could come online as soon as next week and Pennsylvania is accepting license applications.

West Virginia might not be far behind but some issues remain.

Illinois, and Connecticut stand a step behind that group, as they either attempt to legislation and still have issues with current law to resolve.

Sportech expanding its United States presence

United Kingdom-based Sportech already operates 16 off-track betting locations in Connecticut under the “Winners” brand name. It also owns a horse-racing venue in California and enjoys a wide presence in The Netherlands. The company touts that its technology is used in 37 states and it s for $12 billion in bets annually.

Sportech currently holds an exclusive license for off-track pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing, greyhound racing, and jai alai in Connecticut.
