If you visit any one of the myriad licensed online sportsbooks in the United States, you will notice that they all have one thing in common. All the text on the apps and websites is completely in English. A new Spanish-language sportsbook and media portal looks to change that.
Fifth Street Gaming has launched JefeBet.com to address what it sees as an underserved market. It isn’t just a fledgling attempt, either. The product and the idea have gotten some attention already.
Spanish-language sportsbook and media company live now
Fifth Street runs the Silver Nugget Casino in Las Vegas and offers the Lucky Club casino brand to attract Spanish-speaking customers. JefeBet.com takes that same marketing strategy online, according to Tony Owusu of The Street.
“We intend to build the first online media hub in this country truly dedicated to covering sport, gambling, and entertainment in an authentic way for this highly important, yet previously underserved, audience,” said FSG Digital CEO Seth Schorr.
While the team creating the content live in Argentina, Chile, and Mexico, the content on the site will focus on sports in the US. You can’t yet actually place bets on the site, but it offers insights into wagering opportunities as the norm for its content.
Whether it will ever acquire a license actually to accept wagers in Nevada or any other state remains unclear right now. For certain, though, the merit of the company’s strategy hasn’t fallen on deaf ears.
Fresh capital set to power up JefeBet.com
Upon JefeBet.com’s announcement, FSG Digital said it had accepted investments in the site. The funding came from Acies Investments and Sharp Alpha Advisors. The former of those should be of interest to gamblers.
Speaking of former, Jim Murren, who once was the CEO of MGM Resorts, serves a principal role in Acies Investments. It’s unclear how much Murren’s company invested in JefeBet.com. However, his involvement could spur further investments.
Someday, most US sports betting apps could feature options to present text in Spanish as well as English. If that happens, bettors might have JefeBet.com to thank for pushing for that change.
