Resorts World Las Vegas is ready to welcome back visitors to the Las Vegas Convention Center and do so in an unprecedented way. According to the casino’s general manager, a new tunnel connecting the two sites will start operation next month. The hotel opened in June 2021.
It’s the first of what could be a massive collaboration between Vegas and Elon Musk’s The Boring Co. If it reaches its potential, the sidewalks and streets on The Strip could be a lot less congested in the future.
Resorts World Las Vegas set to debut tunnel
This Boring Co. tunnel is a mass transportation system that uses Tesla electric vehicles to convey engers. According to Richard N. Velotta of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Resorts World Las Vegas GM Scott Sibella says the tunnel will feature eight of the vehicles.
Sibella didn’t give an exact date. He did tell regulators in the state the tunnel would start operation in April. Sibella hopes to give the system a “grand opening” of sorts for the National Association of Broadcasters Convention starting April 23.
That event will be at the aforementioned Convention Center. The tunnel will run from there to Resorts World and back. That tunnel won’t be alone forever, either. Boring Co. has grand ambitions when it comes to Las Vegas.
Tunnels, tunnels everywhere
Sibella has shared plans in the past for a grand design. It includes an expansive 29-mile, 51-station underground transit system spanning the resort corridor in Las Vegas. The city’s Convention and Visitors Authority has already approved a similar tunnel between the Convention Center and Westgate Las Vegas as well.
That tunnel would intersect with the tunnel running to Resorts World. The station would intersect Elvis Presley Blvd near the north end of the West Hall. It’s unclear when construction on future tunnels will begin.
If the city realizes the ultimate goal, there could be less foot and motor vehicle traffic on the surface. Greater accessibility could promote casino guests spending more time actually in the casinos than trying to get to them.
