Online sports betting in Ohio promos are starting to roll in ahead of the sports betting launch on Jan. 1.
This week, sportsbook Tipico announced a new promotion worth nearly $100 in the Columbus Crew’s Team Shop at Lower.com Field. Competitor PointsBet is offering a $200 bet promotion, too.
Tipico North America CEO Adrian Vella said the company’s promotion, which is called the “Tipico ’96 Welcome Offer,” will strengthen Tipico’s exclusive sports betting partnership with the team and boost fan engagement.
“The exciting Tipico ’96 Welcome Offer acts to deepen Tipico’s strong partnership with the Columbus Crew and its ers. With the incorporation of a Tipico deposit match and Crew Team Shop voucher, Crew fans will be able to gear up for the MLS season and place a bet to further enhance their Crew experience.”
This move by Tipico and the bet credit from PointsBet are typical of sportsbooks racing for customers ahead of a launch.
Tipico promo has ties to Columbus Crew history
New s who make at least a $50 deposit will earn a $96 credit to the team’s merchandise shop at its home field in Columbus.
The credit can cover the cost of a variety of team gear, including scarves, beanies, t-shirts and hoodies. Jerseys range in price from $100 to $140.
It’s important to note that customers have to spend the entire $96 or they will lose any remaining unused balance. So, if someone spent $60 in the Team Shop, they would lose their remaining $36.
In addition to the Crew Team Shop credit, new s get a 150% deposit match up to $150, too. So, if a new deposits $50, they get a $75 match to bring their total to $125.
The Ohio Tipico app is live, so bettors can make their deposits whenever they’d like. Overall, Tipico’s promos are pretty lucrative.
A new can deposit $50, then receive a $75 match and a $96 credit for the Crew’s Team Shop.
PointsBet Ohio promo offers $200 in promo bets
While Tipico’s marketing is focused on the soccer crowd, PointsBet’s Ohio sportsbook is reaching a wider audience. It will award $200 in promo bets to new s.
The promo requires no code or minimum deposit. Simply g up for the sportsbook’s app will activate the bets. PointsBet will deposit the $200 in four $50 increments, according to PlayOhio.
s have seven days to bet the promo money. If they win, they only get their winnings–the promo bet is not included in their payout.
So, if a bettor uses their first $50 bonus to bet the over on the Bengals-Bills game on Jan. 2, and they win $75, their payout is $75, not $125.
Ohio sports betting promos are part of the loyalty competition
Whenever sports betting launches in a new state, sportsbook operators race to gain customer loyalty. There are several ways they do that. Advertising is a big one.
Sportsbooks like DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesers will flood new markets with streaming, online, and TV ads to win new customers. They’ll hire new spokespeople and brand ambassadors who connect with their new market.
Another way to carve out a customer base is through promos. These promos typically take a couple of different forms:
- No-risk promos reimburse bettors if they place a bet that loses. Sometimes these promos have restrictions on odds and deadlines for when you have to make an eligible bet.
- Deposit matches usually double the amount a new spends on their first deposit.
- Promo bets add bonus cash to a bettor’s once they make a deposit.
And, every once in a while, a sportsbook will offer a merchandise-based promo. They aren’t common, but they provide good value for Ohio sports betting fans of the team or league the merchandise credit is good for.
Even if a bettor’s initial deposit generates no wins, they’ll still have their merchandise credit.
