BetMGM announced on Wednesday that the company has learned that some of its customers’ personal information was obtained in an unauthorized manner. However, many details of the suspected data breach remain uncertain.
The company did not specify the number of s affected.
The issue affected the personal information of some patrons, such as:
- name
- information
- date of birth
- hashed Social Security number
- identifiers (such as player ID and screen name)
- information related to transactions with BetMGM
The US online casino and sports betting operator said the affected information varied by player.
BetMGM launches investigation into possible data breach
According to a press release, BetMGM says it “promptly launched an investigation” after learning of the matter. BetMGM also says it has been working with “leading security experts” in order to determine the “nature and scope of the issue.”
The company became aware of the matter on Nov. 28, 2022, and believes the issue occurred in May 2022.
BetMGM currently has no evidence that players’ s or funds were accessed in connection with this issue. The operator also claims its online activities were not compromised. BetMGM is coordinating with law enforcement and taking steps to enhance its security further.
Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM said:
“We are taking this matter very seriously and are working quickly to investigate it. The security of our platform and our patrons’ data is a top priority for BetMGM. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.”
Players should remain alert
BetMGM recommends players remain alert for any suspicious activity or unsolicited communications regarding their personal information.
The company has organized to offer affected s credit monitoring and identity restoration services for two years at no cost.
Additionally, US players are entitled under US law to one free credit report annually from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies.

BetMGM app hit with a $146,000 fine in Maryland
This isn’t the only issue BetMGM has encountered these days.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission Agency (MLGCA) has recently announced it fined BetMGM $146,000. The operator was fined for accidentally taking early live bets in Maryland.
According to the regulator, the company conducted a demonstration of its sports betting platform, accepting 146 early sports bets. It all happened during a three-hour window on Nov. 16, one whole week before the app was approved to go live.
According to MLGCA, it has been the biggest fine the commission has issued so far.
