Mohegan Sun feels the heat from the competition. There’s now the option for people to play at online casinos and the probability of downstate casinos coming to New York. The retail casino has invested in what it is already known for, which is providing guests with an entertainment resort destination experience.
Mohegan Sun Connecticut casino is investing $15 million in upgrades and has a packed summer entertainment schedule planned.
Mohegan Sun Connecticut planned upgrades
According to a press release, $15 million will be invested in a number of projects that are currently underway and planned at Mohegan Sun and Mohegan Sun Golf Club.
VIP Lounge & Bar in Casino of the Earth: A new 6,500-square-foot VIP lounge that is scheduled to open in late fall 2022. Located next to Ballo Italian Kitchen, the new venue will have dining, a full bar, and a fireplace at the center.
Jeff Hamilton, President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun, commented:
“Our high-end lounges are another competitive advantage of ours in the Northeast. How we’ve been able to successfully maintain our business levels through COVID and increased competition is the way we treat our loyal customers. Making sure the facility and the service meets a high standard is something we are always looking to improve.”
Suite renovations: The Royal Suites will get a $3 million “Fire & Water” themed makeover.
Mohegan Sun Golf club: A 3-year multi-phase renovation will implement various redesigns and improvements across the course. An overarching goal of these renovations is to improve both pace-of-play and the overall golfing experience for all levels of play.
Covered patio: The partially covered patio at Mohegan Sun’s Summer Entrance, where tribute bands perform, will get upgraded this year and into 2023. Highlights include a permanent outdoor bar, a deck, a music stage, and a redesigned area dedicated to activities and lawn games.
Interview with Jeff Hamilton, president and GM of Mohegan Sun

Many people are wondering about the buffet? It sounds like the VIP lounge is going in that space.
Hamilton: COVID gave the opportunity to rethink the buffet space. We aren’t sure if we are going to bring it back or not. We didn’t need the size of the buffet we had before. It gave us the chance from an infrastructure standpoint to create an experiential immersive lounge experience.
Are any new restaurants or stores coming soon?
Hamilton: We will announce two new restaurants coming soon along with new retail. We have some exciting things on the horizon and I’m sure over the next few years we’ll be looking to make more improvements. We want to be the go-to place for food and beverage in the region whether we are a casino or not.
With competition – online and land-based – how does Mohegan Connecticut compete?
Hamilton: Mohegan digital s our brick-and-mortar. People who play online can earn Momentum Rewards and redeem them on-property. We always believe Mohegan is an experiential brand where you come to getaway – to see a show, have dinner at restaurants, and of course, we always want to create new reasons for loyal customers to come back.
