Michigan Reports Record Online Gambling Revenue In October 

Michigan casinos reported combined gross and sports betting receipts of $190.2M during October, 7.7% more than September’s $176.5M

Online gaming revenue in Michigan reached new records.

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) report issued on Nov. 17, the combined total gross gambling receipts reached $190.2 million during October. The receipts were 7.7% higher than September’s results of $176.5 million.

Michigan online gambling gross receipts for October climbed up a record $141 million. The previous monthly record of $132.4 million was set in April 2022.

Online gambling gross receipts increased 9.5% compared with September receipts of $128.7 million. The state also reported a 34.7% year-on-year rise in total internet gambling revenue.

Michigan online gambling records $158.5M in October

Online sports betting gross receipts reached $49.2 million, a 2.9% increase compared with $47.8 million in September.

Combined adjusted online gambling and sports betting receipts equaled $158.5 million, with $126.7 million coming from online casinos and $31.8 million from online sports betting.

Monthly internet gaming receipts reached $10.9 million or 9.4%, and online sports betting increased by $4.6 million or 16.9% compared with September results.

Compared with October 2021, online gambling adjusted gross receipts rose 28% or $27.7 million, whereas sports betting adjusted gross receipts increased 577.9% or $27.1 million year-over-year.

The online sports betting handle at $480.8 million grew 31.9% compared to September’s handle of $364.5 million.

Michigan casinos yield $28.2M in taxes

Michigan operators generated $28.2 million in taxes and payments to the state during September. It includes:

  • Online gambling taxes and fees: $26.3 million
  • Online sports betting taxes and fees: $1.9 million

Detroit’s three casinos reported paying the city $7.8 million in gambling taxes and municipal services fees during October. This includes:

  • Online gaming taxes and fees: $6.9 million
  • Online sports betting taxes and fees: $852,875

Combined casino revenue for October from the MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown was $102.8M. The figure was 10.0% less than the $114.1m generated in October 2021.

It was also a 0.7% decrease from $103.4m in September 2022.

Michigan tribal casinos brought in $3M

Tribal operators in the state of Michigan reported making $3 million in payments to governing bodies.

During the first ten months of this year, aggregate online gambling adjusted gross receipts amounted to $1.2 billion. Meanwhile, aggregate online sports betting adjusted gross receipts totaled $163.2 million.

Throughout September, one tribal operator quit offering online gambling, reducing the number of internet gaming operators to 14. Before that, 15 commercial and tribal operators offered online sports betting in the state.
