While there is no physical World Series of Poker Hall of Fame, that detail probably feels minor to loved ones of inductees like the Hall’s newest, the late Layne Flack. Flack became the 57th honoree in the Hall’s history on Sunday, a distinction that many online casino players would like to claim someday.

Flack’s vaunted career spanned parts of four different decades, leading to a lot of hard-earned chips. Although this award comes posthumously, Flack was inarguably deserving of his place among the game’s elite.

Layne Flack is WSOP Hall of Fame’s 2022 selection

According to WSOP.com, the Hall elects up to two new each year. This year, Flack is the lone selection. A Monday press release says that the ceremony for Flack took place in concert with the start of the Final Table at this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.

Flack won six WSOP gold bracelets, but his credentials spanned beyond those wins. He won consecutive Legends of Poker Tournaments in 1999, earning him the nickname of “Back to Back Flack.” Flack last competed in July of 2020, and Hendon Mob says his career earnings topped $5 million.

According to Hendon Mob, Flack started compiling those earnings in 1994 at just 25 years of age. Flack, unfortunately, ed away at the age of 52 in July of 2021. WSOP gold bracelet winner Derick Barch accepted the honor on Flack’s behalf, calling him an “amazing friend.”

Hall of Fame history predates WSOP inclusion

Although the Poker Hall of Fame now bears the WSOP branding, that wasn’t always the case. Caesars acquired the Hall along with the WSOP franchise in 2004. For eligibility, players must be at least 40 years of age at the time of nomination and meet other criteria.

While most of the inductees are players, the rules also allow for anyone who “contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker.” Flack’s flair for reading opponents and collecting wins definitely made him worthy of inclusion among some of the most influential people in poker history.
