A new casino in Henderson, Nevada, could be on the way sooner rather than later thanks to Boyd Gaming‘s business plans. In Louisiana, Boyd’s prospects for the future are more material than mere words on a page.

On Tuesday, the Henderson city council voted 4-1 to move forward with Boyd’s ambition to build a casino as part of the Reimagine Boulder Highway project.

According to Boyd Gaming, plans include building a new Joker’s Wild casino north of its current location and demolishing the old site within two years.

Expansion plans include multiple phases

Phase two would include a hotel, conference center, swimming pool and additional casino expansion. However, phase two is not official and would depend on the success of phase one. These developments come as casinos in Nevada are on a strong streak of posting gross monthly revenues of at least a billion dollars for the past year and a half.

The Reimagine Boulder Highway project intends to transform transportation lanes around the area once complete.

Project plans include:

  • right-of-way relinquishment
  • center-running transit lanes
  • access lanes
  • dual cycle tracks
  • parks
  • sidewalks
  • street lights

Boyd Gaming also broke ground on its $100 million project to redevelop its aging Treasure Chest riverboat casino in Kenner, Louisiana.

The new site, located at the north end of Williams Boulevard at Lake Pontchartrain, will eventually replace the current riverboat in Kenner. It will be twice the size of its current water-based counterpart.

Boyd Gaming Vice President of Corporate Communications David Strow told WGNO:

“This is really a chance to take Treasure Chest to another level.”

“That really has been something customers told us for a long time, ‘why can’t we park at the door?’ Now we can offer that.”

The new Louisiana casino is expected to open in 2024. The $100 million resort development will feature a 47,000-square-foot gambling area and nearly 10,000 square feet of convention and meeting spaces. The new facility will also have several restaurants and bars.

In addition, Boyd plans to include a physical FanDuel Sportsbook inside the casino. In the meantime, the existing floating casino will remain open.
