Continuing its explosive gaming expansion, the FanDuel Group announced the launch of the FanDuel Sportsbook in Pennsylvania this week.
In partnership with Boyd Gaming and Valley Forge Casino Resort, FanDuel adds another sportsbook in a new state, as it looks to reap the benefits of sports betting in the rapidly changing US landscape.
“We’re leveraging our expertise in creating world-class fantasy and sports betting experiences to build the best online sports betting platform in the state of Pennsylvania,” said Mike Raffensperger, CMO of FanDuel.
“We became the No. 1 sports betting operator in New Jersey by focusing on the customer experience, and we can’t wait for sports fans in Pennsylvania to the party,” Raffensperger said in a press release.

FanDuel continues its dominance
Raffensperger is correct when he says FanDuel has become the number one sports betting operator in New Jersey. The level of dominance shown in the Garden State has not waivered since legal sports betting was introduced over a year ago.
In June, FanDuel’s online/mobile platform ed for $2.7 million of its $4.4 million revenue total. FanDuel’s location at Meadowlands near New York City drives retail traffic, but the significance of mobile wagering cannot be stressed enough.
FanDuel is the fourth online sportsbook to launch in Pennsylvania behind:
- SugarHouse Sportsbook PA – May 31, 2019
- BetRivers Sportsbook PA – June 27, 2019
- Parx Sportsbook PA – June 27, 2019
More and more FanDuel deals
On top of the PA launch, FanDuel also secured a multi-year partnership with the Breeders’ Cup which gives FanDuel “official partner status” for the Breeders’ Cup business units.
To outsiders, this partnership might not mean much. But to lovers of thoroughbred horse racing, this is a step in the right direction.
Outside of the three marquee horse races that make up the Triple Crown, racing has steadily declined. A team-up with FanDuel might give the sports a new level of exposure that has been missing for quite some time.
Lastly, FanDuel was able to begin taking wagers at its sportsbook at Tioga Downs in New York. Stakeholders have been anticipating the launch of New York online casinos for quite some time. FanDuel and Rivers Casino kicked off a new era of gaming this month by bringing retail sports betting to the Empire State.
The FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with:
- 50+ seats for customers
- 27 video displays
- 14 self-service betting kiosks from IGT
- 12 lounge seats
- 8 betting windows
You can also check out an exclusive tour of the new sportsbook.
Future of Pennsylvania sports betting
PA online sports betting is just getting started, and several other operators will enter the market eventually.
- William Hill
- Hollywood Sportsbook
- Caesars Sportsbook
- Fox Bet
- DraftKings Sportsbook
Time will tell how lucrative sports betting will be in PA. If New Jersey is any indication, the industry may benefit significantly from population size alone.
