Sports injury news and analysis company Sports Injury Central (SIC) has renewed their partnership with FanDuel for a third straight year.
The renewal means SIC will be FanDuel’s official injury expert, providing the platform with content about player injuries. The information will help inform fantasy sports players and sports bettors about how an injury will affect a player or a team’s performance.
“We are thrilled to partner with the leader in sports betting and daily fantasy sports,” said Sports Injury Central President and Co-founder Craig Dado. “FanDuel will provide Sports Injury Central broader exposure to bettors, fantasy players, and fans. And we are happy to give FanDuel customers a competitive advantage with access to our injury data and insights.”
The news of the renewal is the second big moment for the company this summer. In early September, SIC announced sports personality Jim Rome ed the company’s advisory board.
SIC will provide a variety of content for FanDuel customers
SIC produces color-coded “SIC” scores that grade a player or a team’s health and performance expectations. Players with more serious injuries and are not likely to play receive red scores, those with iffy injuries who may play typically fall in the yellow category, and those who are healthy or slightly dinged up receive a higher score (green). For team sports, SIC compiles individual player scores to provide a composite team score.
Those numbers alone can be helpful when determining who to sit or start in a fantasy or DFS lineup, and when making prop bets about a player or team. But SIC will offer more than just its scoring system.
SIC will produce the following types of content for FanDuel:
- Articles about player and team health statuses
- Real-time updates a player’s in-game status and effectiveness
- Tailored visual presentations of the overall health of a team
- Pre-game and halftime videos
- Weekly podcasts
- Searchable player and team databases
- Wager recommendations based on SIC data
SIC provides player and team analysis for the NFL, NBA, MLB, and college football.
Who is SIC leader Dr. David Chao?
Dr. David Chao leads SIC’s team of doctors, which includes team doctors from the Houston Texans and Houston Rockets, the Chicago Bulls, the Texas Rangers and the University of Texas, the San Diego Chargers, a former NFL general manager, a former head coach, and a variety of media personalities and businesspeople.
Chao is an orthopedic surgeon who graduated from Harvard. He was the head team physician with the San Diego Chargers for 20 years.
“It has been fun to watch the growth of the ‘medical expert’ industry,” Chao told PlayUSA, reflecting on the rise of medical experts in fantasy sports, DFS, and sports betting. “It is flattering that many others have jumped in. The key is to continue to strive to be the best. My unfair advantage is I worked in the NFL as a head team physician for almost two decades.”
Chao produces SIC podcasts and does regular weekly appearances on FantasyPros’ fantasy football podcast. He also provides in-game analysis.
For example, he posted a video analysis during halftime of the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs game on Monday night. He took questions from listeners and discussed injuries.
In addition to leading the SIC team, he also has his own personal brand: The Pro Football Doc.
