If the weather is ever poor while onboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship in the future, there will be a new way to the time inside your cabin. BetMGM and the Carnival Corporation have just closed a deal to bring a new diversion to cruisers.
BetMGM plans to make its online gambling products available to guests of Carnival’s three brands. The circumstances in which that will be available are well-defined and might not encom travelers’ entire trips, though.
BetMGM, Carnival set sail on partnership
A Friday press release spells out the details of the collaboration. The deal covers both online casino and online sports betting play via BetMGM. The plan is to eventually roll out the products to over 50 ships that make port in the United States across all of Carnival’s lines. Those include:
- Carnival
- Holland America
- Princess
The release says the rollout will take place in phases over the coming months. The release does not state whether this will replace the BetMGM Casino and BetMGM Sportsbook players could soon start seeing ads for Carnival’s cruises.
Likewise, Carnival patrons will probably see ads for BetMGM while onboard ships, too. While this might excite some cruise fans, it’s important to note the context of when this iGaming will be available.
How and where can BetMGM players gamble onboard?
The release specifies that the real-money games will only be available while ships are in international waters. While within the waters of specific countries, like the US, local regulations will apply.
Many of the states that Carnival’s cruise ships port out of, like Florida, do not currently allow for iGaming. Thus, while you might be able to an and make a deposit while you’re in port there, you won’t be able to actually hit the virtual slots or tables until you hit those international waters.
Of course, you also have to meet BetMGM’s house requirements. That means you’ll need to be at least 21 years of age, among other requirements.
While there’s plenty to do onboard a cruise ship, and most of it will have you off your phone for a while, online slots and table games could soon be an option for you. At least for part of your trip.
