2022 could be memorable for many people for several reasons, from the shortest tenure in history for a prime minister of the United Kingdom to the discontinuation of Choco Taco. For operators of Pennsylvania online casinos, 2022 looks like it will be a year worth celebrating.

Pennsylvania’s legal online poker, slots, and table games brought in nine figures of revenue again in September 2022. That not only keeps the streak alive but keeps 2022 on pace to be the strongest year yet for that segment of the gambling industry.

Pennsylvania online casinos top $112 million in September

The latest figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board revealed that the state’s licensees reported over $112.5 million in gross revenue from online poker, slots, and table games in September 2022.

Slots ed for about 69.1% of that total at $77.8 million.

The $112.5 million in gross revenue represents an improvement of about 13.2% from the same category in September 2021. It also marks the eighth month so far in 2022 when gross revenue from online casinos in Pennsylvania topped $100 million.

Through September, only July’s returns failed to eclipse that total. For the first nine months of 2022 cumulatively, gross revenue for online gambling (excluding sports betting) in Pennsylvania has sured $975.3 million.

In 2021, the first nine months of online poker, slots, and table games produced $812.7 million in revenue. Thus, 2022 is up around 16.7% year-over-year. With three months left in 2022, the running total is just $127 million short of matching the total for all of 2021.

Legal gambling in Pennsylvania is a lot bigger than just online casinos, though. September was a great month for other segments of the industry as well.

Brick-and-mortar casinos, sports betting activity for September

Altogether, legal gaming in Pennsylvania compiled over $448.5 million in win for September 2022. Like their online counterparts, brick-and-mortar casinos saw the majority of their gross revenue come from slot machines.

Slot machines earned $198.5 million for the month with table games throwing in another $81.6 million.

Sports betting played a prominent role as well with the return of college football and the NFL in September. In-person and online wagering on sports generated more than $50.2 million in win for the state’s licensees during the month.

The gambling industry in Pennsylvania should continue to enjoy some of that seasonal boost from sports betting for the rest of the calendar year. Operators of online casinos will certainly mark 2022 as the year that they not only broke a national record but set some records of their own as well.
