Rivers Casino Portsmouth announced it is hosting its grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
The city of Portsmouth leaders and casino managers made the grand opening a big celebration. The ceremony featured remarks from:
- Roy Corby, general manager of Rivers Casino Portsmouth
- Shannon Glover, Mayor of the City of PortsmouthBrian Donahue, director of Portsmouth Economic Development
- Kelly T. Gee, executive director of Virginia Lottery
- Tim Drehkoff, CEO of Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Rush Street Gaming
The casino hopes to make history as the state’s first full-service permanent casino.
The new previously scheduled to open on Jan. 15.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth opens multiple amenities
The Rivers Casino Portsmouth opening event features a special performance by Norfolk State University’s “Spartan Legion” Marching Band.
All previously announced restaurants and amenities will open, including:
- BetRivers Sportsbook
- iral’s Steak & Seafood for high-end dining (from Thursday through Sunday)
- Sasual fare at Crossings Café
- Mian
- Slice Pizzeria
- Starbucks
The complex also includes live and virtual entertainment at The Sound Bar and Topgolf Swing Suite.
Yard House, recently added to the restaurant lineup, will open later this year and feature the world’s largest draft beer selection.
Rivers Portsmouth to bring new jobs and $16.3M annual tax revenue
Rivers Casino Portsmouth is a $340 million local investment and part of the new Entertainment District along Victory Boulevard.
The casino project is estimated to bring more than 1,300 new permanent local jobs and approximately 1,400 construction jobs.
The projected annual payroll will be $62 million, with a commitment to build a diverse workforce and hire locally.
Early estimates showed the investment would generate $16.3 million in new annual tax revenue for the City of Portsmouth.
Rush Street Gaming’s latest addition
Rivers Casino Portsmouth is the latest addition to Rush Street Gaming, one of the fastest-growing US gaming and entertainment companies.
